Over the course of two weekends, the Yuba College speech team walked away with a total of 20 awards, earning the team fifth place in the category of Best Community College Speech Team in Northern California.
Nine speakers from Yuba College competed at Santa Clara University September 23 through 25 and at Santa Rosa Junior College October 7 through 9.
Between the two competitions, Devin Black took one first place and another second place award in Dramatic Interpretation; a first place and a fourth place plaque in Impromptu Speaking; and a second place award in Dramatic Duo at both events.
Justin Lowe walked away with second and fourth place in Speech to Entertain; second and third place in Oral Interpretation of Literature; and fourth place in Dramatic Interpretation.
Jeffrey Johnson took home first place in Dramatic Interpretation and fourth place in Persuasive Speaking. Mike Register took second and fourth place in Prose Interpretation and fourth place in Informative Speaking. Paul Shergill placing second in Dramatic Duo twice. Dean Dorenson placed fourth in Informative Speaking.
“Excellent” and “superior” ratings from Judges of both tournaments were given to team members Michelle Rabedew, Eli Henderson and Ellie Michel.
