There are many things that irritate me, and one of them has to do with some people’s hatred towards sports. This is one thing that makes me want to scream and pull my hair out. For the most part, the people who say sports are boring to watch are the ones who have never sat down and watched a full game on television. These are the people who don’t understand how exciting buzzer beating shots are. They don’t understand how rare some sporting feats are and how difficult they can be to accomplish. There will never be another 100-point game in the NBA. Sports haters don’t understand the importance of quality entertainment. I am not saying that all people who hate sports haven’t watched a full game, but I will say that they probably didn’t take the game seriously as someone else might have. Then again, there are those that watch a game and try to take it seriously, but still don’t see the excitement in the game. I have a little advice for them: get out and experience a live game. There is nothing like going to a game and watching professional athletes play as thousands of fans go crazy. The atmosphere at a live game is not comparable to anything else in the world. When I went to my first game, I was in awe of the athletes that were practicing before the game. The game I went to was a Sacramento Kings game at Arco Arena. The Kings were taking on a team I had watched on television for years – the Indiana Pacers. Watching the game on television does not compare to when one is at the event to experience all that goes into the game. The attractions during the game are unbelievable – the empty seats before a game, the standing ovations and the halftime activities – the list is endless. The only way to see this is to go to a game. Television cannot bring every aspect of a game to the audience. Another reason people may not be intrigued by sports is that they may have never played the game to understand how enjoyable it can be. It’s always good to try something before one criticizes. This does not stand true to everything, but sports can bring out a lot in a person. The biggest thing it brings out is competition. In every career, competition runs wildly and sports is no different.
When I was a kid, I never watched sports because I thought they weren’t that interesting. That all changed when my friends took me to the playground to play basketball. I didn’t really know how to play the game, so of course I lost. If anything speaks true of me, it’s that I hate to lose. I began to play the game so much that I fell in love with it. Now, no one can tear me away from playing basketball. So, to those who can’t stand sports, I accept it, as long as those people have done everything that can be done to make sports enjoyable. Then again, if one has done all the things necessary to be a sports fanatic and still has no love for sports, then walk away when someone else is going crazy for its team.
