The first storm of the season swept through the Mid-Valley Tuesday, October 19, producing tumultuous winds and more than an inch of rain. According to the Appeal Democrat, winds blew at a rate of 25 to 30 mph with gusts at more than 40 mph. Many residents in the Yuba-Sutter area suffered power outages due to leaf laden trees falling over on telephone poles.
“It was nuts, said Yuba College student Christina Smith-Cole. “I had to be out in the wind, and no one was driving safely. There were several power outages.”
The gloomy weather is not going away anytime soon. Scattered showers and cloudy conditions are in the forecast for the coming week with temperatures ranging in the mid sixties.
Yuba College student Carlos Torres summed it up for many who had to endure the harsh weather. “It was scary,” he said simply. “All of that wind and rain.”
