The college’s student government, known as the Associated Students of Yuba College, has yet to hold a regular meeting.
The ASYC was to hold its first meeting of the new term on Thursday, September 1, but since a majority of council members were absent, no official meeting was held.
On September 8, due President Black’s absence, no official meeting was held. However, a brief unofficial meeting was held after the suggestion that something be done to help with the relief effort for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
On September 15, the student council meeting was cancelled again because of needed student government officer training. However, the council did decide to place a water cooler jug in the cafeteria and coffee cans in college offices to collect donations for relief funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
This coming academic year, the Associated Students of Yuba College heralds a majority of new cabinet members, including a new president.
At the end of last term, Kimberly Black was elected President, running unopposed. Katie Hudson, the new Vice-President, and Devin Black, the new Business Secretary, also ran unopposed. The one face that isn’t new on this cabinet is Activities Director Gavina Avila.
However, student council members are still needed, including a Communications Director, Secretary and Senators. Those students interested in being a part of the student government should contact the ASYC office staff.
The ASYC office is located in the southwest corner of the cafeteria, under the stairs. ASYC office hours are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2 to 2:50 pm.; Tuesday and Thursdays from 1 to 2:30 pm.
You can reach the ASYC office at (530) 741-6808 or by email at asyc@yccd.edu.
