The Associated Students of Yuba College welcomes its newest cabinet member, Secretary Nikki Ercolini. Ercolini fills a much needed position in the understaffed student council this year.
Still needed, however, are a Communications Director and senators. Students interested in taking part in Yuba College’s student government should contact the ASYC office staff.
The ASYC office is located in the southwest corner of the cafeteria, under the stairs. ASYC office hours are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2 to 2:50 pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 2:30 pm. ASYC meetings are held every Thursday, from 12 to 12:50 pm.
On September 29, the council members discussed various activities for October and November, including a staff Halloween Office Decorating Contest. First prize will be a free drink card form Jamba Juice in Yuba City.
The ASYC is also handing out pink ribbons during the month of October to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Those interested in wearing the ribbons can obtain one from the ASYC office. The ribbons are free and will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The ASYC held a voter registration drive on October 3, hoping to provoke student involvement and interest in not only statewide ballot measures but local measures as well.
On November 15, the ASYC will join with the Yuba-Sutter Disposal Inc. for “America Recycles 2005” to help the Marysville campus become more aware of its recycling needs.
The student council is also planning to supply microwaves in the cafeteria, due to student suggestions and inquiries. The ASYC is purchasing a few microwaves from the former student dorms on campus and placing them around the cafeteria. ASYC advisor Elizabeth Bowman volunteered her time to clean them three times a week so they will not be messy.
The ASYC did not hold a meeting on October 6, 2005.Students can reach the ASYC office at (530) 741-6808 or by email at asyc@yccd.edu.
