During the final week of March, the Associated Students of Yuba College approved the purchse a portable defibulator to place in the Campus Police truck last Thursday. The Resident Hall Association has already approved the idea of placing one defibulator in the gym in hope to save a life if needed.
The campus nurse reported to the ASYC that these defibulators would cost around $1,000 each, a bargan to Yuba College. Portable defibulaters regularly cost $3,000 The ASYC agreed that no one can place a value on a life, so they unanimously voted to purchase the defibulator.
The defibulator when placed on a victim of a heart attack would assess if the victim needed a shock. Studies have shown that the first five minutes of a heart attack are very crucial, and the ASYC agreed that the defibulator would better serve the campus if placed in the police truck.
The ASYC donated $500 to the Tsunami relief fund, participating in another drive that involves the art department, in which the Photography and Ceramic classes will sell their wares on e-bay, having all winnings go to the relief fund.
The council is deliberating on the “Spring Slam” project, discussing whether or not to let local bands play. The ASYC last discussed that having local bands play is better than hiring someone.
March Madness arrived on campus March 8th and will continue until March 17th. Activity director Gavina Avila is heading up the tournament which will provide some entertainment for students without athletic skills. The event includes a 3 on 3 basket tournament. Students may sign up at the ASYC office for some fun times.
The council is also gearing up for this semester’s elections, which will be held beginning May 2nd. The Prospector will update on the runners later next month.
