The Associated Students of Yuba College convened for an open meeting April 14 after a weeks of closed sessions held for election and budget meetings.
At the April 14 meeting, the student council discussed the upcoming “Spring Slam II,” the elections of the next year’s council and the closure of the dorms.
“Spring Slam II” is a continuation of last year’s “Spring Slam,” featuring local bands on campus. The concert will be held April 28 during the noon hour at the campus outdoor amphitheater, located in front of the library.
Because only four bands have been cleared for performance, the student council has extended its deadline for applications to participate in the event until April 21.
The associated students have also discussed the possibility of current members running for offices that will be vacant next year, as graduating members leave the college. Advisor Elizabeth Bowman noted that not many students are running this year despite having put up flyers as required by the ASYC constitution. The candidates will be revealed the week of April 18. Campaigning will commence the week of April 25.
The council was surprised to learn that local community figure Don McCullough had died April 13. Bowman suggested that the council send a condolence card to his family.
The ASYC meets in the 300 building every Thursday at noon.
