Has anyone attended any of the shows presented by the music department? If you haven’t, you are missing out. Starting with the Autumn Instrumental the Symphonic Band and the Jazz Band, under the direction of Mrs. Jennifer Aldridge, was amazing. A salute to the Armed Forces and a variety of familiar songs were performed as well as a beautiful song titled “How Long Has This Been Going On?” featuring Marylou Brown doing a Solo/ Vocals.
The Variety Show showcased a multitude of acts including poetry readings by Jim Fleenor and Lisa Shepard, a guitar solo by Connie Brechlin as well as duets by Randy Joslin and Dr. Robert Mathews. Jessika Spencer, Jenna Gallegos, Joe Daniel, Brian Baggett and Rachael Fuentes performed four songs from the Phantom of the Opera. If you closed your eyes, you actually felt as if you were at the Broadway play.
Choral Music from Around the World was presented by Dr. Aya Ueda who directed both the Chamber Choir and the Community Chorus. A tour around the world of multicultural music was the theme of the evening. Bridge Over Troubled Water was sung in honor of Prof.Neelam Canto-Lugo for inspiring many people the importance of friendship. “Homeland” was a song that expressed all about building bridges of respect for the differences and similarities of who we are as humans and where we call earth our ultimate homeland.
