Coach Doug Cornelius led the 2010-2011 basketball team to be undefeated conference champions with an overall record of 26 wins and 6 losses and eleven regular season conference wins. With statistics like these, it is evident that this team possesses not only some of the most talented players, but also an unbelievable coach.
For the 2010-2011 season, head coach Doug Cornelius, known to the team as “Coach Corn,” was named Coach of the Year for the Bay Valley Conference (BVC). In his nine years at Yuba the 49’rs have won the conference title six times and made the California Community College “Elite 8” (meaning that they were one of the last eight teams left in the playoffs) three times. This is his fifth consecutive year leading the 49’rs in conference domination and beyond.
Cornelius wasn’t the only one to be honored, though. Yuba’s 6’3 sophomore star, Julian Welch, was BVC Most Valuable Player. Remaining starters, Mike McChristian, Julian Scott, Spencer Butterfield, and Anto Olah were among those chosen for “First Team.” With four, Yuba College had more members on the list than any other school.
