“You punched my boob!” exclaimed the part Goth, part ninja-lesbian evil ex of Ramona Flowers, the object of Scott Pilgrim’s affection.
Although the words seemed negative, actions taken forth by Scott Pilgrim (the protagonist of the film) shows him fighting the seven evil exes that control the fate of one very disgruntled girl. This girl has a knack for dating evil characters, who would rather do harm to Scott than befriend him.
“Scott Pilgrim” is based on a graphic novel by Bryan Lee O’Mallet of Toronto, Canada. The movie and graphic novel complement each other well. Wherever you find yourself confused, the graphic novel is there to fill in the gaps. All in all, the comic is wonderfully enticing and definitely needs to be read before or after the film.
O’Mallet was a hailed as a genius for having created such a leveled up graphic novel, and from its “Legend of Zelda” theme songs to “Street Fighter” fighting scenarios, the movie will appeal to everyone over the age of 13; all social groups be it jock, Goth, Emo, nerd, gay, or straight. This film incorporates several aspects to draw in its audience, with romance, action and stylized violence for men and women alike to enjoy.
One audience member, Matt Nix, stated, “This is a film to watch over and over again.”
Lynn Keller commented, “I thought Knives Chu was ok but Ramona Flowers is way hot.”
The movie definitely had its fill of attractive characters. The film had me laughing along with each and every one of its geeky punch lines, which is why this film gets a ten out of ten for its originality, style, lighting, and overall for incorporating several visual themes into one film that the whole family can enjoy.
Unfortunately, the film has been removed from theaters due to lack of box office sales. After only two weeks, the film had grossed a little over $41 million worldwide of the $60 million dollar budget, according to Boxofficemojo.com. For those of you who missed it, look forward to it on DVD in the following months. In the mean time, a sidescroller beat ’em up game has been released on Xbox Live for 800 MS Points.
