You want entertainment and intellect all in one? You’ve got it! Provocative and edgy? No problem! More sports? We’re on it!
Every semester, the staff at The Prospector (Yuba College’s Independent News Source) wastes endless hours of time trying to understand why most students don’t know or care that we exist, and debating on how to go about getting our name out there and being acknowledged. Regardless of the fact that we are in a perpetual “training mode,” since we enroll new students every semester- what we WILL do is quit whining, suck it up, and do our jobs. If we write stories that are interesting, relevant, and attention-grabbing, the fan base will follow effortlessly.
The only way to please everybody is to broaden our horizons and come up with a wider variety of articles so that there is something for everyone to enjoy. To be better trained, more informed, and work harder, in order to put out better papers than previous semesters. Consider it done :)
The Prospector produces only 2 print editions per semester, and truth be told, people got tired of reading information that was outdated or irrelevant by the time it was accessible to them. For the past few years, we’ve struggled to develop and maintain our online news website, so that students always have a place to find important and entertaining things going on in the community, as well as on campus.
In the midst of many technical difficulties and miles of red tape, we repeatedly have to start from scratch. This semester is no exception. After a $2,000 a year price increase, the decision was made to drop our (“former” sounds more factual, that they’re greedy bastards is beside the point) greedy content management site and make a brand new website from the ground up. It will be worth it, in so many ways, trust us!
Greg Kemble, the adviser at The Prospector says, “Although this site will take a lot of hard work, it will be a great learning experience for the students. It will give them opportunities to explore new and modern technology in a hands-on way. We are very fortunate to have so many returning students this semester; an experienced staff should make the web transition a little smoother.”
Our goal is to go beyond just the visual changes you will see.The new website will be more accessible, user-friendly and interactive, so that readers can leave comments, suggest stories, write letters to the editor, take polls, and most importantly, bounce ideas off us as we continually improve the site, so that when you are on are page, you see what you want.
Please Be Patient As We Make This Happen!
