The Western Golem is an urban fantasy story, based in San Jose, centering around it’s narrator, a regular 26 year-old guy who indulges in the boring life. While enjoying a typical day working at the bakery, he meets a stranger while closing shop, a man laying down in an alley. While he would never help this man normally, he decides to lend a hand and offer the man some leftovers. What he witnesses shortly after changes his life forever.

The narrator is shocked, and upon returning the next day assumes it must have been a dream. However, he finds the stranger at his house days later. So now he’s involved with no way to get out, and eventually the cops are after both of them now.

Written by 29-year old former Yuba College student Capa Langley, the premise was originally comprised in 2011. Eventually, Langley set aside half a year to pen the journey, and now with his vision coming to fruition, the book is to be released by the end of the year.

The release marks another feather in the cap of the Yuba College Mass Communications department, as the novel joins a growing number of artistic releases from an ambitious group of students who have been pushing the envelope creatively the last few years. Whether these efforts come to us via literature, feature film, animation, music, or any of the other ways Yuba students have been contributing to the public arts, one thing is clear, Yuba College has made its mark in society, in a number of creatively artistic ways, and the best may be yet to come.
