The Yuba College 49ers, craving a home win this year, came out ready and looked impressive early in the game against the Sierra College Wolverines.
Trevor Stoehr connected with wide receiver Todd Dickerson for a 53 yard touchdown early in the first quarter. The Wolverines marched back with a touchdown, to which began a dog fight between the two.
In the second quarter, the Wolverines scored 14 unanswered points and shut down the Yuba offense from scoring.
The Yuba offense got it going in the third quarter, scoring 2 touchdowns to start a comeback. The Wolverines scored a touchdown late in the third quarter, creating a close game.
But the Wolverines etched out a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, and held the Yuba offense from ever getting back into the game.
Turnovers were slim to none, with Yuba giving up the ball only twice. Capitalizing on key plays kept the team from winning. Plays like the 2 fumbles the Wolverines coughed up.
“The turnovers were not as critical.” Coach Hoal Said. “We didn’t take advantage of opportunities and they found a weakness in our defense to keep us playing catch up.”
The weakness being exposed corners, allowing the Wolverines to rack up an astounding 383 yards and 3 touchdowns through the air.
Final score Sierra College Wolverines 35 Yuba College 49ers 21.
