December 2, 2011 admin Leave a Comment

At 12pm on Tuesday November 15 and Thursday November 17, Dr. Robert Mathews hosted the Yuba College Variety Show produced by Israel Gonzalez; a free show open to both students and the public.

Anyone who wished to showcase their talent was welcome to participate. Theshow was scheduled for one day only, but there was such a wonderful turnout that it had to be expanded to two.

A multitude of acts includedpoetry readings by Jim Fleenor and Lisa Shepard, a guitar solo by Connie Brechlin as well as duets by Randy Joslin and Dr. Robert Mathews.A piano solo played by Jhynelle Currington and a violin/piano duet was performed by Brynne and Geniel Capps. The only dancing was done by Team Yor who did a breakdance to the song “Wedding Dress”.Jessika Spencer, Jenna Gallegos, Joe Daniel, Brian Baggett and Rachael Fuentes performed four songs from the Phantom of the Opera. If you closed your eyes, you actually felt you were at the Broadway play.

Some favorite hits were sung by Stephen Meguire (Shattered), Thoa Nguyen (Take Me to Your Heart), Ashley Swetzer (Inside Your Heaven), Gabriela Nuno (Perdicion) and Christie Carothers (Every Breath You Take, accompanied by Joshua Currington on guitar). The Annoying and/or Repetitive Songs Medley was vocalized by Mario Nieto, Anthony Harmon, Brian Baggett and Michael Starkey.

Those who attended on Tuesday, spread the word and on Thursday it was a full house. If you were unable to attend, then you missed some very talented people. So when the variety show comes around again, don’t miss it.
