Veterinary Technology Students Holding Fundraiser

October 3, 2011 Carol Donaldson Leave a Comment

From September 3rd to mid December the Veterinary Technology students are raising funds for Heifer International.

Heifer International began in 1944 to alleviate hunger and poverty; it does this by providing assistance to impoverished families worldwide, in the way of an agriculture or livestock gift.

The family goes through a training program, and must prepared appropriate facilities to receive a gift of a heifer, a female sheep (ewe), or a pig. There are also chickens, goats, bees, ducks, donkeys, guinea pigs, rabbits, water buffalo, and llamas are also available. Heifer will even provide trees depending upon the needs of the family.

Each family in the program receives an animal if that is what they desire. The animal provides sustenance and an income for the family during the year. When the animal has offspring, the offspring is then passed along to another needy family allowing them to become self reliant as well.  To find out more about Heifer International you can visit their website at www.heifer.org.

If you would like to donate to the fund-raising effort, you can write a check to Yuba College. Make sure to note on the check that it is for Heifer International, and put it in an envelope addressed to Bonnie Loghry; her mailbox is located in the administration building.
