Many of you may have noticed the Art building was closed for renovation last semester. The building is open again and the construction is almost done. The dust has settled and has already been sucked out through the new giant air filter and shiny new sinks abound in the printmaking department. Students are grateful to be back in their classrooms. “I think the ceramics department is awesome. It’s got more shelving and room for more pieces” art student Rosa Gonzalez told us. The Ceramics department will also be installing new kilns, which many of the students are excited about since the newer kilns will produce better glazes than old pre-renovation kiln. The renovations were long overdue. “This building hasn’t been changed in over 50 years so it’s a great thing that we actually got this done” says Glenn Husted, instructor of ceramics, sculpture and painting. “There is more room in the building. There is better separation of studio and practicespace. There’s a better ergonomic feel for the students involved.” The newly renovated building is clean and fresh, offering student artist a new environment to create in.
