Is it really fall already? The Yuba College Child Development Center program is really getting into the fall grove this year! They hosted the 2015 Fall Festival for all of the children in their program.
November 13, 2015 is a day to be remembered as all of the children, staff, and volunteers at our colleges preschool joined together to enjoy some fall festivities.
Behind the preschool that you normally see was a fall wonderland set up with scarecrows and fall colored leaves, in various colors of reds and oranges, strung everywhere.
Interest based tables and activities were set up all through out the outdoor playground. Sensory play, manipulative play, and fine and gross motor play were all incorporated.
One activity for the children to experience was the face painting booth. Not only is this a useful activity to do with children because of its fun attributes, but it also is sensory for them as they learn and experience the feeling of paint and how it can be manipulated.
Another activity set before the children was a water table full of rubber ducks. This was a very popular attraction for the children. The ducks each had a letter on the bottom to encourage language and literacy development, and the water stimulated the children’s mind through sensory play.
The water table also opened up a world of opportunities for the children as they experimented what they could put in the water. They would test what floated, what sunk, and what filled with water.
Bean bag and ball tosses were also available for the children. These activities help children refine their large motor skills as they use their body to throw the ball or beanbag. There was also a ring toss station set up as well. The ring toss attracted older children who had more control with their large motor skills.
Leaves! There was a tarp filled with leaves for the children to experiment with. Some children ran through the leaves, some jumped in them, and some just picked them up and studied them. This was a fun fall activity for all the children to experience.
Many other activities were set up for the children as well. All of the activities were hands on and encouraged play. This was an important aspect because children learn through play. If a child is fully engaged in a hands on activity in which they may express their creativity, that is when the child gets the most out of the activity.
Bowling, another large motor activity was an activity, the children participated in. Children seemed to enjoy this activity as they experimented with the speed and angles at which they rolled the balls. All in all, the Fall Festival was a success. The children, for the most part, kept smiles on their face and wished to participate in all of the activities at hand. Do not forget to have fun this fall!
