After two weeks of playing good baseball, the Yuba College baseball team is slowly slipping down the standings in the Bay Valley Conference with two losses the week of April 4 and drops to 7-9 in league. “We need to just about win the rest of our games if we want a chance at the postseason,” said right-handed pitcher A.J. Holland. Yuba hosted Santa Rosa Junior College and lost a very close game 4-0. Pitcher Wes Porter was dominant, but could not get any help from the offense only scattering six hits. On Tuesday April 8th, the 49ers traveled to Los Medanos College and came up short again losing another league game 8-2 to the Mustangs. “We were up all game, then let them pull away in one inning when they scored six runs in the seventh inning,” said freshman Pitcher Ryan Zaft. The 49ers had ten hits and committed one error. Kelly Buber and Josh Howard both went 2-for-4 to lead the Yuba hitting attack. Right-hander Steve Briggs pitched well, but gave up six runs in one inning by giving up two hits and three walks. Los Medanos pitcher Frank Rodriguez gave up two runs, but was over powering late in the game. Rodriguez was drafted last year by the Oakland A’s. The road does not get easier for the 49ers as they travel to league leading Diablo Valley College this weekend then start the home stretch against American River, Sacramento City and Cosumnes River all in the next two weeks.
Yuba drops to 7-9 in league and 11-22 overall.
