Yuba College held its second annual “Hypnopalooza” on April 5 at noon, as part of the campus’s “First Thursday Events.” Several clubs sold food and various Easter related goods, and Jamba Juice sold smoothies from its cart. But the main attraction was the hypnotist’s show in front of the Yuba College theatre.
Several Yuba College students and staff volunteered to be hypnotized by Rich Ames, who was assisted by his wife and fellow hypnotist Marielle Ames.
Rich and Marielle Ames have performed at various colleges and universities around the nation, doing shows for over 10 years. They live in Las Vegas, and their shows are a mix of hypnotism and comedy.
Marielle Ames has a master’s degree in counseling, and Rich Ames majored psychology in college and did some standup comedy on the side.
Their show at Yuba College was followed by a workshop showing students how to use hypnotism to help them become better students and study for tests better.Not many students attended the event. Elizabeth Bowman, Campus Life Coordinator, said, “I wish we would have had more students come to watch it, but the show itself was very fun.”
Two Yuba College freshman stood in front of the library watching clubs set up tables for the hypnopalooza event. Sam Takahar, one of the freshman, said, “Nobody tells us anything. No teachers tell us anything.”
