Apparently, the weather has it out for the women of the Yuba College softball team. The girls were pumped up and anticipating a tournament in Roseville, but unfortunately the weather though differently and the games were rained out.
But have no fear , there will be softball in the near future for Yuba College. The Sierra tournament, which was scheduled for March 3 and 4 has been moved to the weekend of April 1,
The last game the softball team competed in was at Yuba College on February 25 against Butte College. San Joaquin Delta was also supposed to compete that day but do to a scheduling conflict they were unable to attend. San Joaquin Delta said that they had no record of a game against Yuba College scheduled that day. Could it be they just weren’t prepared? We may never know.
Yuba went on to play Butte twice that day, the closing scores were: 9-1 and 9-0. Unfortunately Yuba College was on the losing end of those games. However, this is not a bad thing.
“We are playing against teams that are in the state’s top ten.” says Coach Reynolds.” Although it would be nice to win against them.”
Rainy weather may have brought a halt to several games this season, but not to the teams’ spirit. The girls were full of energy and spunk at a recent practice, despite being driven indoors. They ran laps and drills as usual, all to a nifty music. One team member quoted the record as being the soundtrack to “Remember the Titans” as she danced along the gym sidelines while warming up.
While one may expect that the girls held back while practice indoors, this was not the case. They whipped the bright green balls around with gusto, the sound of the ball hitting the mitt and bats reverberating through the room, followed by rowdy cheers and encouragement.
Yuba may be standing 0-10 at the moment, but these girls’ spirit and dedication is infectious. Rain, rain go away, the Yuba 49ers softball team is ready to play!
