Yuba College student Stacy Bagget is set to publish her first book, “Ordinary World,” to go to print no later than June. Bagget, born and raised in Yuba City where she has lived for the past 23 years, has known since she was a little girl that she wanted to be a writer.
“My third grade teacher told our class that someday I would be a writer,” Bagget said. “There was never any doubt that I would become one.”
Bagget plans to graduate from Yuba College this May. She will take a couple semesters off school so she can promote her book and work on a couple of other different projects which she hopes to publish in the future. “It is my goal in life to be a successful writer,” Bagget said, “to make a living from writing books.”
While Bagget pointed to the helpful criticism of her English 1A professor and her Introduction to Shakespeare class, she said that Yuba College psychology courses helped her more than any English course in preparing to write her book.
“Consciousness Studies taught by Sharon Ng inspired me beyond belief,” Bagget said. “Social Psychology and Abnormal Psychology, taught by Heidi Morgan, helped me a lot while writing my book.”
“Ordinary World” is about a 14-year old girl, Sherrie Blackwell, who is killed in a car accident. She is on the “other side of things,” with a spiritual guide, named Sera, reviewing her life and observing those who were close her, in order to come to terms with her life-and death-so she can move on to the “next level.”
Bagget had written many things before publishing her book, mainly poems and comedies. Most of them have been published in magazines.
In the summer of 2005 Bagget decided to start writing “Ordinary World.” After two months the first draft was complete. While writing the book she got very ill and said that she almost died.
Bagget’s mom believed that writing this book was cursed and wanted Stacy to stop, but this only made her more determined to finish the story and pushed her to get better.
Bagget’s inspiration for “Ordinary World” came from a childhood friend whose life was cut short as a result of an automobile accident.
“Ordinary World” will be published by PublishAmerica. Copies will be available through Chapters.com, BN.com. Borders.com, Amazon.com, and also publishamerica.com. Bagget hopes that B. Dalton’s in the Yuba-Sutter Mall and Amicus Books in Marysville will carry her book.
