The Yuba College track and field season is under way with some very familiar names on the roster. Zack Stuller returns for another season on the men’s track team. Stuller also ran for the 49ers cross country team in the fall. Others competing for the men’s team are Jeremy Rutledge, Pernell Haygood, Tony Cantrell and Lawrence Smudski. Stuller has already reached some personal bests for himself this year. Coach Bob Miller said at the Stan Wright Panther Invitational earlier this year that he timed Stuller at three minutes and 59.8 seconds in the 1,500 meter race, but Stuller was timed electronically at a little over four minutes.
In the 49ers recent track meet at the Chabot Relays, Rutledge took second in the hammer throw with a toss of 147 feet and seven inches, while Smudski finished seventh in the hammer throw (102-2). Haygood placed fourth in the 400 (51.36) while Cantrell was fifth in the long jump. The 49er women are led by Mariah Davis and Yvette Coleman who are doing well in their respective events. At the Chabot Relays, Davis placed fourth in the triple jump (31-5) and finished sixth in the high jump (4-4). Davis was the only notable placer for the 49er women. At an earlier meet in the year, Coleman, the lone 49er woman competing, placed second in both the 100 meter run (13.7) and 200 meter run (28.8).
At that meet, the 49er women’s team placed last. Shasta won the women’s division with 102 points, while the 49ers finished with eight points.
