Yuba’s new auto body shop professor builds a reputation

September 22, 2006 Staff Leave a Comment

Yuba College has a new Auto & Body teacher, Don Schumacher. He has spent his whole life in the auto industry. He has over 23 years in the business. Schumacher worked on boats for 10 years and then opened his own auto restoration business where he worked for thirteen years, nearly eighty hours a week. He then decided he needed more time for life. He needed to change his career.

A friend convinced Schumacher to go into teaching. So he decied to give high school a try. He taught at Orland High School near Chico, off highway 32, for four years. He is excited about being here at Yuba College.

At the moment, Schumacher is working on making the Yuba College auto and body an accredited auto shop. If the Yuba College auto and body shop gets its accreditation, then it will make Yuba College the only 2-year college in California to have one.
