The men’s Yuba College tennis team finished the season with a 4-7 conference record.
Chris Eytcheson is Yuba’s only graduating player, he played No. 3 singles and No. 1 and No. 2 doubles this year and posted wins against Butte, Shasta, Sac City and Cosumnes. Eytcheson will be moving on to UC Davis next semester.
Gary Vongsavath was Yuba’s No. 1 player this year, and posted wins this year against Butte, Sac City, Consumnes and Shasta.
“He made great improvement in his game and should be an outstanding No. 1 for us next year,” explained Coach Josh Prager.
Playing No. 2 singles for Yuba, this year was Lou Thao.
Thao is also the coach for the Lindhurst High School boys and girls team.
“(Thao) did a great job for us this year at number two, and he has done wonders with the players on his Lindhurst High School team,” said Prager.
“I’m excited to see all the skilled players that will likely be playing for Yuba College in the next few years,” he continued to ponder.
If Yuba College does decide to fund the tennis program next season, the men’s tennis team will showcase seven experienced players: Gary Vongsavath, Lou Thao, Yee Xion, Johnny Vongsavath, Erik Goodman, Yer Vang, Robert Pheiffer and Tony Lee.
On April 4, the 49ers (4-7) went head to head with Shasta College, losing a Bay Valley Conference match 5-4 match.
Yer Vang and Erik Goodman won in the doubles play (6-0, 6-1). J. Vongswath, Vang and Goodman recorded wins in the single’s match.
